What are your five research questions?
Please write them as part of the page, not as a discussion board. You can modify your questions as you proceed.
Miriam:
1.
From where did all the animals in the cave get there in the first place? From where....?
2. How do they get their foods in the first place? (Is all the food accessible in the same environment? Do they have to leave the cave to get their food?) Good question, but can be modified to, which organisms serve as the producers in the Cave food web?
3. Did the animals have to evolve to live in their environment? If so, What are they have that is so different from other animals in a different environment? (For example, "Monkeys, Dogs, etc.) First question is a defintie yes, even before you start. But then you are asking - what are special adaptations that can be found in Cave organisms (not only animals, by the way).
4. Can a normal person live in the same environment? (What do you mean by "Normal"? "Same environment"?)
. How do most animals communicate through the harsh environment?
6. W hich senses are still useful in that environment? Which are needed? ( And suppose you find out that hearing and touching are advanced. What do you want to learn further about the senses in the Cave?)
7. Do animals easily leave the caves? Turn into an open ended question, rather than a yes/no.
8. Do they HAVE to leave the cave? Same as in 7.
9. How do extremophiles deal with cave biodiversities? (What do you mean by "deal with"? Biodiversity means degree of variability amongst species. Why are you mentioning extremophils? are you aiming towards how these micro-organisms interact with other habitants of the cave?)

Nathaly: Weird animal relationships:
1. What chemical or chemicals participate in parent offspring attractions and sexual attractions?
2.Where do the chemicals come from?
3.What part sends out the "signal"
4. What is known about the animals?
5. What age do animals begin to recognize and prefer their own kind for upbrining? http://www.gerrycharlottephelps.com/2006/11/tiger_piglets_t.html http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4754996". Nathaly, 'weird' is not a scientific or even objective term. Before you go for the abnormal, you should define what is 'normal'. I looked up your two links, and from them I learned that you might be interested in cross-species relationship, mostly in captivity. Is that a good way to put it?
Paul:
1. How exactly do neurotransmitters affect the person's state of mind and mood.
2. How are they made?
3. How many types of neurotransmitters are there?
4. Which neurtransmitters do what?
5. Is there a way to introduce neurotransmitters into the system in the form of medicatoin? Paul, except for question 5, the questions are interesting and important, but they are not research questions. That is because they do not give you direction for an investigation, such gthat you manipulate one variable and check its effects on another. Mrs. Kreiselman 03.15.10
Becky:
What types of extreme environments have we found life in?
What do these orginisms have that allows them to live in such an environment?
Are there different kinds of extremophiles? What are they?
Are there extremophiles that are more complex than single cell organisms?
What are the origins of extremophiles?
All these, Becky, are interesting questions that you need to find out. But are they research questions? Do they lead to experiments where you manipulate one variable and check its effect on another? Mrs. Kreiselman. 03.15.10
Raquel:Bipolar Disorder
1.What does Bipolar Disorder mean?
2.Are there different types of this specific disorder?
3.What are the symptoms?(how do people with this disorder really behave?)
4.How does gender affect Bipolar disorder?
5.What is the genetic basis for bipolar disorder?
6.What triggers to the onset of bipolar disorder?
03.30.10: Raquel, questions 4-6 are good! Q. 2 I would change from a yes/no question to an open question. For example - 'What are different types of bipolar disorders?'. Also, this question is indeed important but does not lead to observations. It's more of a background reading question. In order for Questions 1 and 3 should also be modified to become research questions, for example leading to the diagnosis of Biopolar disorders in patients. Feel free to email me with any questions.
